Four taps give a quick estimate. Eight or more steady taps smooth out small timing errors.
Check half-time
If the result feels twice as fast as the song, use ½ tempo. Use 2× for a double-time production grid.

How long should four bars be?
Choose a tempo, bar count, and time signature to estimate the musical length of a loop or background bed. It is a planning aid, not a measurement of an exported file.
How the calculation works
Recent, consistent taps matter more than one perfect click.
The tool records the interval between taps in milliseconds, keeps a recent rolling window, removes intervals that stray too far from the median, and calculates BPM as 60,000 ÷ milliseconds per beat. A pause longer than 2.5 seconds starts a new session.
Use the consistency score as a warning, not a grade. A syncopated track can be harder to tap even when its underlying tempo is fixed.

How many times should I tap?
Tap for at least two measures. Four taps produce an estimate; eight or more consistent taps usually produce a steadier number.
Why is my BPM exactly half or double the published tempo?
You are probably feeling a half-time or double-time subdivision. Both can describe the same musical pulse. Use the ½ or 2× control to match your production grid.
Does this tool listen to or upload my song?
No. It uses only the timestamps of your taps. It does not request microphone access, read a file, or upload audio.
Can I use the BPM in an AI music prompt?
Yes. Treat BPM as one control alongside genre, mood, instrumentation, and intended use. The generated track may still interpret the requested tempo imperfectly, so verify the export.
